New Delhi, Aug 31: Silver prices in India held steady on Monday morning as trading resumed after the weekend, carrying forward Friday’s closing levels without any change. Today’s national rate for silver stands at ₹2,550 per 10 grams, ₹25,500 per 100 grams, and ₹2,55,000 per kilogram, unchanged from Friday’s close. On a per-gram basis, that works out to ₹255, flat for a second straight session after Friday’s ₹50 decline broke the earlier three-day flat run.
The steady opening means silver has now held its Friday closing level through the weekend, with no fresh movement recorded as markets reopened. The pause comes even as gold extended its own pullback into a third consecutive session on Monday, marking a rare divergence between the two precious metals after they had moved in the same direction on Friday. Dealers said the lack of movement suggests global spot silver prices were largely unchanged over the weekend, even as gold continued to correct.
Silver price in India is determined largely by international prices, which move in either direction depending on global industrial demand, investment flows and mining supply. Currency movement also plays a part: if the rupee weakens against the dollar while international silver prices hold firm, the metal tends to become costlier in India. Monday’s flat opening suggests global spot silver prices were broadly stable heading into the new trading week.
Dealers said Monday’s steady rates reflect a pause in the profit-booking that had driven Friday’s decline, with silver holding its ground even as gold continued to slide. Traders said silver’s near-term direction will likely hinge on fresh cues from the US Federal Reserve, alongside industrial demand from electronics and solar-panel manufacturers, with Monday’s flat session suggesting the market is awaiting clearer signals before making its next move.
Market participants added that silver continues to draw interest from retail investors looking for a lower-cost alternative to gold, and Monday’s unchanged rates could offer a stable entry point for buyers who held off during Friday’s volatility.

On a per-kilogram basis, Monday’s rates remain at ₹2,60,000 in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala, and ₹2,55,000 in the remaining seven cities — identical to Friday’s levels across every market. Retail buyers are reminded that these are indicative bullion rates, and actual prices at silverware and jewellery counters will typically include additional making charges and applicable GST.
Market watchers said Monday’s unchanged rates, coming right after Friday’s ₹50 decline, suggest silver has paused to consolidate rather than continuing to track gold’s steeper slide. With gold posting a further fall of its own on Monday, dealers said the coming sessions will be key to determining whether silver resumes correcting alongside gold or reverts to holding its ground independently, as it did through much of last week.
Historically, silver has traded at a small fraction of gold’s price per gram, and Monday’s flat session did little to change that broad relationship even as the two metals diverged in direction for the first time since Thursday. Analysts tracking the gold-silver ratio said the widening gap between a falling gold market and a steady silver market points to metal-specific factors — such as industrial demand — reasserting themselves after Friday’s brief synchronised move. Silver’s added industrial-use component means it can continue to decouple from gold during periods when manufacturing or green-energy demand shifts independently of investment sentiment.
