Mumbai, Sept 4: Five stocks are in focus on Friday, from a large capex expansion at Sterlite Technologies to Aditya Birla Group’s entry into wires and cables through UltraTech Cement to a related-party real estate investment at Welspun Investments to a defence-software tie-up for Ramco Systems to a small-arms manufacturing pact for Bharat Forge. Here’s what’s driving each stock and what to track through the day.

Sterlite Technologies (STLTECH): Board approves Rs 3,000-crore capacity expansion

Sterlite Technologies‘ board has approved a capital expenditure plan of approximately Rs 3,000 crore to expand capacity at its existing manufacturing facilities, a move aimed at meeting rising global demand for optical fibre cables and connectivity solutions. The expansion is expected to increase installed capacity by close to 50 per cent and be completed by the end of FY29, funded through internal accruals and/or debt. The move follows a strong first-quarter performance, with net profit surging nearly twenty-fold year-on-year, and comes days after Crisil upgraded the company’s credit rating on the back of a multi-year, over Rs 2,400-crore hyperscaler supply deal.

UltraTech Cement (ULTRACEMCO): Aditya Birla Group enters wires and cables with Ultravolt

UltraTech Cement has announced its entry into the wires and cables business with the launch of Ultravolt, backed by an investment of Rs 1,800 crore. The Aditya Birla Group said Ultravolt, anchored by a manufacturing facility in Jhagadia, Gujarat, will be the second-largest player in the segment by capacity at launch and aims to become one of the top two players within five years, rolling out initially across more than 500 districts and 6,000 pin codes. It marks the group’s fourth new business foray in three years, after Birla Opus, Indriya and Birla Pivot.

Welspun Investments: Subsidiary to invest up to Rs 1,000 crore in Indivara Realty

Welspun Investments said its wholly owned subsidiary, Vishwakarma Realty, has been approved to deploy up to Rs 1,000 crore into promoter group entity Indivara Realty via optionally convertible debentures. The related-party transaction, which requires shareholder sign-off, comes after Welspun Investments raised over Rs 1,365 crore from a block-deal sale of Welspun Corp shares in late August.

Ramco Systems (RAMCOSYS): Signs MoU with Safran Helicopter Engines

Global aviation software provider Ramco Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Safran Helicopter Engines, a leading manufacturer of rotorcraft turbines, to enable seamless integration of Safran’s engine data with Ramco Aviation Software. Under the pact, engine configuration, usage metrics and maintenance events from post-shop-visit records will be automatically ingested into Ramco’s Maintenance Information System, cutting manual data entry for helicopter operators worldwide.

Bharat Forge (BHARATFORG): Arm signs MoU with FN Herstal for small-arms manufacturing

Kalyani Strategic Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharat Forge, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with FN Herstal, a wholly owned subsidiary of FN Browning Group, to pursue local manufacturing of small arms, integrated weapon systems and counter-unmanned aerial system solutions in India. The two sides will evaluate setting up a dedicated production centre and a strategic alliance or joint venture, in line with the Make in India push for greater domestic participation in defence procurement.

Broader Read

Friday’s triggers span a large manufacturing expansion for Sterlite Technologies, the Aditya Birla Group’s diversification bet through Ultravolt, a related-party capital move at Welspun Investments, and defence and aviation tie-ups for Ramco Systems and Bharat Forge, a mix of company-specific developments for investors to weigh even as the broader market eyes a firmer open. GIFT Nifty pointed to a gap-up above 24,000 after the Nifty 50 closed Thursday at 23,873.45, down 41 points, with elevated crude near $97 a barrel and continued FII selling likely to test whether early gains hold.
