New Delhi, Oct 14: Gold prices fell on Wednesday. According to Goodreturns.in, 10 grams of 24-carat (99.9% purity) gold costs Rs 1,48,260 in most cities. The price of 10 grams of 22-carat (91.6% purity) gold is Rs 1,35,900, while 18-carat (75% purity) gold is selling at Rs 1,11,190.
On Tuesday, 10 grams of 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold cost Rs 1,49,290, Rs 1,36,850 and Rs 1,11,970, respectively. This represents declines of Rs 1,030, Rs 950 and Rs 780 per 10 grams, respectively, or around 0.69-0.70% across all three categories.
On a per-gram basis, 24-carat gold costs Rs 14,826, 22-carat gold Rs 13,590 and 18-carat gold Rs 11,119 in the Mumbai cluster of cities. Buyers will therefore pay Rs 103, Rs 95 and Rs 78 less per gram, respectively, than Tuesday’s rates.
For bulk buyers, one kilogram of 24-carat gold costs Rs 1,48,26,000, while 22-carat and 18-carat gold cost Rs 1,35,90,000 and Rs 1,11,19,000, respectively. This is Rs 1,03,000, Rs 95,000 and Rs 78,000 less than Tuesday’s rates.
The price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold is now Rs 2,720 lower than Monday’s price of Rs 1,50,980, making this the second straight fall and taking the total decline to about 1.8%. It is also Rs 2,450 lower than the Friday price of Rs 1,50,710 and Rs 920 below last Monday’s price of Rs 1,49,180.
Domestic gold prices are influenced by international prices and the USD-INR exchange rate. As of 10:15 am, the October 28 USD-INR futures contract on the NSE was at Rs 95.1300, lower than Rs 95.4500 on Tuesday morning. A stronger rupee can make gold imports cheaper, which could be one reason behind the decline.
Gold rates across various cities remain similar in terms of their relative differences from the previous day. Delhi continues to be the costliest city, with 10 grams of 24-carat gold priced at Rs 1,48,410. This is Rs 150 more than the rate of Rs 1,48,260 in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune.
A similar trend can be seen in 22-carat and 18-carat gold prices, with Delhi charging Rs 150 more per 10 grams than the Mumbai cluster. Vadodara and Ahmedabad have 24-carat prices of Rs 1,48,310 per 10 grams, which is Rs 50 higher than the Mumbai cluster. In Chennai, 10 grams of 18-carat gold is priced at Rs 1,11,650, Rs 460 higher than the Mumbai cluster.

Every row in the three tables shows a fall. In 24K and 22K gold, all ten cities saw the same decline of ₹1,030 and ₹950 per 10 grams, respectively, while 18K gold fell by ₹780 in nine cities and ₹750 in Chennai.
Keep in mind that these are bullion rates. Jewellery will cost more than these rates because you will have to pay making charges, wastage charges and 3% GST on the value of the gold. GST alone adds about ₹4,448 on a 10-gram purchase of 24K gold at today’s rate.
With the festive season approaching and Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali still to come, buyers will be watching whether the rate keeps falling or finds a floor. At ₹1,48,260 per 10 grams, 50 grams of 24K gold costs ₹7,41,300 before making charges and GST. A 22K chain weighing 20 grams would cost ₹2,71,800 in gold value alone at ₹1,35,900 per 10 grams, which is ₹1,900 less than on Tuesday.
