Mumbai, November 3: Petrol and diesel prices today, November 3, remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities, with Bengaluru witnessing a reduction of Rs 0.75 per litre in petrol and Rs 0.76 per litre in diesel. Petrol was priced at Rs 102.12 per litre in Delhi and Rs 111.21 in Mumbai, while diesel rates stood at Rs 95.20 and Rs 97.83 per litre, respectively.
Oil prices edged higher in early Asian trading on Tuesday, November 3, after reports of a US military strike on Iran’s Qeshm Island revived concerns over an escalation in the Middle East conflict and potential disruptions to global energy supplies.
Brent crude futures rose 0.03% to $104.8 per barrel while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained 0.18% to $96.63 per barrel. The gains followed a sharp sell-off in the previous session, when Brent crude plunged $8.66, or 7.63%, to settle at $104.77 per barrel.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials, that American forces had struck Iran’s Qeshm Island. Some officials described the strikes as defensive operations intended to prevent Iran from targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The reported military action reintroduced a geopolitical risk premium into oil prices after markets had begun factoring in the possibility of a diplomatic resolution.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to end the conflict continued, although negotiations have yet to produce a breakthrough. Tehran said contacts with Washington were ongoing after several days of discussions with Qatari mediators resulted in revised proposals. US President Donald Trump also expressed uncertainty over whether he would resume threatened military strikes against Iran, while maintaining that an agreement with Tehran remained possible.
The conflict, which began in late February, has significantly curtailed shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transit route that previously handled around one-fifth of worldwide crude oil and natural gas supplies. Any prolonged disruption to the waterway could tighten global supplies and sustain upward pressure on energy prices.
Brent crude had ended October at its highest level in six months amid concerns that hostilities in the Middle East could intensify following the US midterm elections. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei had granted the government certain powers to pursue peace negotiations.
Elevated oil prices remain a concern for major energy-importing economies, including India, as sustained increases in crude can add to imported inflation, pressure the rupee and raise input costs for oil-dependent industries.
