Mumbai, October 30: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged across major Indian cities on Friday, October 30, with oil marketing companies keeping retail fuel rates steady. Petrol was priced at Rs 102.12 per litre in Delhi and Rs 111.21 per litre in Mumbai, while diesel retailed at Rs 95.20 and Rs 97.83 per litre, respectively. Among other metros, petrol was costliest in Hyderabad at Rs 116.15 per litre, while Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest diesel price at Rs 104.40 per litre.

Oil prices advanced on Friday as escalating attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group on Saudi Arabian energy infrastructure heightened concerns over potential disruptions to global supplies. Brent crude futures climbed 1% to $116.1 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 1.3% to $103.3. Both benchmarks were headed for their fourth consecutive monthly gains, marking their strongest monthly advances since July.

For October, Brent was on course to register a nearly 14% increase, while WTI was heading towards a gain of around 15%, potentially settling above the $100 mark for the first time since April. The latest rally follows a fresh escalation in hostilities in the Middle East, with the Houthis claiming attacks on several Saudi energy installations on Thursday, including the kingdom’s largest refinery at Ras Tanura, the Rabigh refinery and an Aramco facility in Abqaiq. A Saudi-led coalition separately said it had intercepted a cruise missile launched towards the kingdom’s western region.

The attacks have amplified concerns over the security of energy infrastructure and shipping routes in the region, particularly around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Continued military activity and diminishing prospects of a diplomatic breakthrough between Washington and Tehran are keeping a geopolitical risk premium embedded in crude prices. MST Marquee Head of Energy Research Saul Kavonic said persistent hostilities around the strait, alongside uncertainty over diplomacy, were sustaining expectations of a further escalation in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations between the United States and Iran remain uncertain. US President Donald Trump said Vice President JD Vance had reached out to Tehran to facilitate the supply of medical assistance, following reports that Vance had written to Iran’s top security official to revive peace talks. Iran has acknowledged receiving the communication but has yet to respond, with Tehran insisting that Washington meet its conditions for negotiations. Separately, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said three tankers had struck sea mines and caught fire while attempting to navigate an unauthorised route south of the Strait of Hormuz. Reflecting the deteriorating security environment, ExxonMobil and Chevron have also cancelled plans for their executives to attend the UAE’s biggest oil industry event next week.
