Mumbai, November 4: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged across major Indian cities on Wednesday, November 4, with no revisions reported by oil marketing companies. Petrol was priced at Rs 102.12 per litre in Delhi and Rs 111.21 in Mumbai, while diesel retailed at Rs 95.20 and Rs 97.83 per litre, respectively. Among the listed cities, Hyderabad recorded one of the highest petrol rates at Rs 116.15 per litre, while diesel was costliest in Thiruvananthapuram at Rs 104.40 per litre.

Crude oil prices edged lower on Wednesday, November 4, as investors awaited the outcome of the US midterm elections and assessed their potential implications for diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East. Brent crude futures declined 0.4% to $103.2 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 0.5% to $95.6 per barrel. The decline came despite an unexpected drawdown in US crude inventories, with markets remaining cautious over the prospects of a breakthrough in negotiations involving Washington and Tehran.

Brent crude had already fallen more than 1% in the previous session, touching its lowest level in nearly four weeks, as traders weighed diplomatic efforts to end the wars in Ukraine and Iran against the possibility of further supply disruptions. The US midterm election outcome is being closely watched for its potential impact on President Donald Trump’s approach to the Middle East conflict and the broader geopolitical outlook.

Meanwhile, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran and Washington remained far from reaching an agreement to end the conflict. Qatar has stepped up mediation efforts to bridge differences and prevent a fresh escalation following the US elections. US officials described recent strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island as limited defensive operations targeting surface-to-air missile systems, while Trump said Washington had no immediate plans for further strikes against Iran.

Providing some support to oil prices, US crude inventories fell by 5.27 million barrels in the week ended October 30, according to data from the American Petroleum Institute (API). This contrasted with expectations among analysts polled by Reuters of an increase of around 880,000 barrels. Gasoline inventories rose by 1.43 million barrels, while distillate stocks declined by 1.19 million barrels. Investors are now awaiting official inventory figures from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), due later on Wednesday.
