New Delhi, Nov 6: Silver prices fell to Rs 2,050 per 10 grams on Friday, according to Goodreturns.in. That is Rs 50, or 2.38 per cent, lower than Thursday’s rate of Rs 2,100 per 10 grams. The new rate works out to Rs 205 per gram and Rs 20,500 per 100 grams, while one kilogram of silver costs Rs 2,05,000, against Rs 2,10,000 a day earlier. The rate is the same in all 10 major cities tracked, from Chennai to Ahmedabad. These are bullion rates and do not include taxes or making charges.

Silver prices in India are linked to international prices, which can move in either direction, and local dealers adjust their rates accordingly. Thursday’s city-wise listings showed silver at Rs 2,10,000 per kilogram, so today’s rate is Rs 5,000 lower per kilogram than in the previous session. The fall gives back half of the Rs 100 that silver gained per 10 grams on Thursday.

Several factors move the rate from day to day, including international silver prices, the rupee and expectations for US interest rates. The rupee looks firmer today, with USD/INR November futures at ₹94.3100 around 11:00 am, against ₹94.6600 at 11:18 am on Thursday. A stronger rupee lowers the rupee cost of imported silver.

For a buyer of 10 grams, the price is Rs 2,050 before taxes, which is Rs 50 less than the Rs 2,100 a buyer paid on Thursday. A purchase of 20 grams costs Rs 4,100 against Rs 4,200 on Thursday, and 50 grams costs Rs 10,250 against Rs 10,500. Anyone buying 100 grams will pay Rs 20,500, down from Rs 21,000. Every extra 10 grams now adds Rs 2,050 to the bill, compared with Rs 2,100 on Thursday.

On a per-gram basis, silver is at Rs 205, down Rs 5 from Thursday’s Rs 210. For bulk buyers, one kilogram costs Rs 2,05,000, and the same rate applies in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kerala, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad as well as Chennai. A 5-kilogram purchase would cost Rs 10,25,000 at today’s rate, which is Rs 25,000 less than it would have on Thursday.

Silverware and jewellery will cost more once making charges and 3% GST are added. GST alone comes to about ₹6.15 on one gram of silver, ₹61.50 on 10 grams, ₹615 on 100 grams and ₹6,150 on a kilogram. Including GST, 10 grams of silver comes to about ₹2,112 today, against ₹2,163 on Thursday.

Today is Dhanteras, and Diwali falls on Sunday, so silver coins, bars and utensils are traditional purchases. At today’s rate, a 50-gram silver coin or bar costs ₹10,250 before making charges and GST. Shoppers who bought the same coin on Thursday paid ₹10,500, so those who waited for Dhanteras saved ₹250. A 100-gram silver bar costs ₹20,500 before charges, ₹500 less than on Thursday.

Vaibhav Global opened at ₹166.46, up 3.17 per cent from the previous close of ₹161.35, and that is also the day’s high, but the gains vanished within minutes. The stock fell to a low of ₹159.28, 1.28 per cent below the previous close. It is at ₹159.85, down ₹1.50 or 0.93 per cent, ₹6.61 below its open and below its VWAP of ₹161.20.
