New Delhi, Oct 19: Silver did not move on Monday. Goodreturns.in has reported 10 grams of the metal at Rs. 2,300 in most cities, which makes it Rs. 23,000 for 100 grams and Rs. 2,30,000 for a kilogram. Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala are still the dearer markets at Rs. 2,400 per 10 grams, Rs. 24,000 for 100 grams and Rs. 2,40,000 per kg.

All 10 cities tracked match Friday’s rates exactly, and Friday’s matched Thursday’s, so silver has been flat for two sessions after a fall of Rs. 50 per 10 grams on Thursday. The national rate is also unchanged at Rs. 230 per gram.

A rate of Rs. 2,300 is Rs. 100 below last Monday’s Rs. 2,400 in most cities, a drop of about 4.2 per cent, and Rs. 50 below last Monday’s Rs. 2,450 in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala. It leaves silver at its lowest in at least two weeks.

Domestic equities were softer. The Nifty 50 was at 23,067.10 around 10:58 am, down 79.05 points or 0.34 per cent from Friday’s close of 23,146.15, while the metal stayed put.

The change shows up over the week. The table below sets Monday’s rates against last Monday’s, October 12, again per 10 grams.

City  Mon, Oct 12  Mon, Oct 19  Diff
Chennai  ₹2,450  ₹2,400  -₹50
Mumbai  ₹2,400  ₹2,300  -₹100

Every city is lower on the week. Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad are down Rs. 100 per 10 grams, while Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala are down Rs. 50.

Buyers in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala pay Rs. 100 more per 10 grams than buyers elsewhere, the same gap as on Friday.

These are rates for the metal alone. Silver jewellery costs more once making charges and 3% GST are added. On a 10 gram purchase at Rs. 2,300, the GST alone comes to Rs. 69.

With Dussehra on Tuesday and Dhanteras and Diwali still ahead, coins, idols and utensils tend to draw buyers. The question for the next few sessions is whether Rs. 2,300 holds as a floor, or whether silver slips further after shedding Rs. 100 in a week.

PN Gadgil Jewellers opened at ₹606.05 against a previous close of ₹603.35 and jumped to a high of ₹612.00 within the first few minutes. It then gave up the gain and touched a low of ₹598.30 close to 10:55 am. It is at ₹599.40, down 0.65 per cent and below its VWAP of ₹602.35.

Against Friday’s morning levels, two of the four counters are higher. Senco Gold is up ₹12.15 or 3.66 per cent from ₹332.00 and Vaibhav Global by ₹3.08 or 1.50 per cent from ₹205.12. Silgo Retail is down ₹0.75 or 1.07 per cent from ₹70.00 and PN Gadgil Jewellers by ₹1.05 or 0.17 per cent from ₹600.45.

Silver was flat on Monday, so these moves do not look like a read-through from the metal. The Nifty 50 was lower, and only one of the four counters rose with it.

Order book data showed sellers ahead on all four counters. PN Gadgil Jewellers had 72.05 per cent of total quantity on the sell side, with 92,289 shares against 35,805 on the buy side.
