Equity Mutual Fund Inflows Drop 22% To ₹19,013 Crore In May Despite Market Gains

Net inflows into equity mutual funds fell drastically by 21.66% on a month-on-month basis to ₹19,013.12 crore in May 2025, as per data published by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). This decline comes despite benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 rising 1.51% and 1.71%, respectively, for the month.
Despite this decline in inflows, the mutual fund industry’s AUMs inched up to an all-time high of ₹72.20 lakh crore from ₹69.99 lakh crore in April, showing a continued interest from investors in other fund categories.

How Did Fixed Income and Overall Industry Totals Perform?
In the debt category, debt mutual funds witnessed net outflows of ₹15,908.48 crore in May, a sharp reversal from net inflows of ₹2.19 lakh crore in April. Nevertheless, the overall mutual fund industry reported total net inflows of ₹29,108.33 crore in May, aided by other categories such as hybrid and passive funds.
Sustained Long-Term Trend
Despite the month’s slowdown, open-ended equity schemes have recorded positive inflows for 51 consecutive months since March 2021. This streak highlights investors’ consistent participation in equity markets, often through SIPs and diversified equity products.
